This is classed under Not Quite IRL, because it is almost surreal. It just goes to show, that working in the hotel buisness always brings about interesting stories. Do read on :)
So, my friend, LilleBen, still works at the hotel I quit from in June. It's generally a pretty nice place, and the reason I quit had nothing to do with the hotel as such. I liked most of the staff there, all of them being quiet and pleasant people. But being a nightshifter does leave a lot of sparetime with nothing in particular to do. LilleBen just told me a story yesterday, that I felt I had to relay here. I laughed a lot.
Anyway, this guy Dennis had his first shift with me and Ben on my last shift, so I helped train him. To caught on fairly well, and knew more than a few of the other nightshift people after his first shift, than they knew after several of theirs. Says more about them, tbh. Anyway, Dennis and Ben were working together last weekend. Now, sitting together with a relative stranger for 8hours straight can be an enduring task, depending on who you sit with. While Dennis was nice enough as such, it's still hard to talk for 8hrs, so you just tend to talk a bit, then have long moments of silence, and then, if the need arises, talk some more. For a few of us, playing games on the internet was what we used our time for, and this night was no different for Ben. He sat with his back turned to Dennis, who were messing what something on his comp.
Now, as another plot twister, the network on the hotel is set up with shared profiles. This means, that whenever a workstation is shot down, an image of ALL it's settings is saved on the server, and distributed to the other workstations, when they are rebooted. That includes the desktop settings and contents.
So Dennis is messing with whatever on his box, and it crashes. He mentions this to Ben, who shrugs and says that kind of shit happens. The rest of the shift passes without incident, and they go home. So far so good.
Cut to next week. It's Ben working the weekend night again. He comes in, and the assistant manager asks him if he remember Dennis doing anything special that night. He says he doesn't... why?
So apparently the morning after their shift, 3 images were located on all the desktops of all the workstations. The images were of Dennis... naked. Not only was he naked tho, he was also standing to attention, if you catch my drift. And two of the three images had him snagging images in a mirror, so his face was clearly visible. When his comp crashed, the images were spread to all the other workstations, which he didn't know they would. So when he deleted them from the desktop on his own machine, it was already too late.
He still doesn't know he's been caught. The poor girl who opened the images first, happens to a bit of a prude and hothead. She almost literally fainted. She refuses to speak to him, when she sees him. Right now, it's up to the assistant manager and the hotel manager to have a talk with him. They both think it is incredibly embarrassing, which I agree with. They don't know how to break it to him. He's getting a written warning, altho they assume he's going to quit himself.
I've done some wacky things in my various jobs, but this definitely takes the cake. The sheer embarrassment of it, would prolly result in mental suicide for me. Ie. I'd pass out from fear and then be carried to a hospital, where I'd be comatose for years.
I dunno. I laughed a lot when I heard the story. I could almost feel the embarrassment. Sheesh.
