V for... what?

I like it when things stay within a theme. Theme being a natural order where I can link one event to another event without having to move through the many degrees of linking made famous by Bacon, Kevin. I commented on the media whipping an unknowing crowd into a scared mob. The day after, Bowling for Columbine was on television, ensuring me that I had not been mistaken in assuming this point of view. Tonight a third event occurred, that made me realize that I am probably not alone in this assumption. Not had I wanted to be, or imagined I was.Â
I went to see V for Vendetta. I had realized it was slightly controversial, due to the dealings with terrorism, and the terrorist being the main character with which we were, though not as a consequence, meant to sympathize. The movie shed a light on some topics that I fear will be lost on the average moviegoer. But of course, despite whatever political or religious messages, it was still entertainment, and as such it needed to wrap those messages into a neatly spun web of action, effects and witty dialogue. However, I felt the creators of the movie refrained from grabbing handfulls of items from the old clichée basket. Sure it had some. The dark villain wanting to make the world a better place (it was based on a comic character afterall), the copper brainwashed by the system, yet still wanting to know the unbiased truth. And of course, the media/government vs. the people. But it was done in a different and refreshing way. Darkish, as I can only assume the comic was, but refreshing none the less. The simple fact that V (the villain/hero), does never remove his mask, is refreshing in so many ways. I don't know if you follow me in this observation and appreciation, but I found that little thing extremely satisfying.
Overall, I found the movie very enjoyable. It wasn't drowned in fancy effects, or smart camera work. It was classy... and in a way moving. But most of all, it gave a somewhat frigthening picture of a future. A future that isn't that far out or off (imo). A future where the government and the media do whatever they can do control what the people want, where they are, what they do and most importantly, what they think.
I wouldn't say the movie is a must see. I think it is, but I also don't think many people will take it for more than face value. It's an action movie afterall.. Hollywood production. But for what that's worth, I think somebody in Hollywood took a gamble with it. And I'm happy they did. It goes to show, that combining entertainment with a valid message is actually possible. It goes to show, that even Hollywood can't miss every single time.

Well.. the books seems to be balancing themselves. The post yesterday was complaining about getting to earn money worth mentioning again etc.. Well I checked my account today, and discovered a whopping 20k danish kroner in backtaxes. Add to that a little something we call vacation money, a substitute for paid holiday, which is another 22k.. Makes, in case your math skills sucked, DKK 42,000. That's roughly $7000... as you can imagine, 7000 USD does indeed help my mood :) So I guess those nightshifts were not in vain anyway.
Don't go thinking I'm out aspending straight away. I may be a shopaholic, but years of living from paycheck to paycheck has taught me a few valuable lessons. So I'm gonna try to spend wisely for a change, and buy useful stuff, save the rest. One of the top priorities on my list, is a driver's license. For the transatlantic readers, a driver's license is pretty fucking expenssive around these parts. Second on my list is, ironically enough, a new bicycle. The old one is 10 years old, and has just about served it's tour of duty. Thirdly.. I dunno what else, but I think I'll treat myself to some new shoes and pants. Perhaps a sweater of some sort. I'm inclined to buy a lot of tech stuff, but I suspect I'll have to wait for a bit. I'll need to make sure my loan and my schooling is paid for before I deal with the rest. But for what's its worth (7k), life's gonna be a bit easier from now on :)
Dullness

Working the weekend nightshift really is totally dulling for one's life. Friday, I got up at 8am, went to school, had my mom pick me up at 5pm, go the a shopping center thingy, buy stuff.. Come home and hang out, eat dinner, then go to work. Naturally tiredness sets in, but I pull through. Come home at 7am Saturday. Go to sleep, get up at 6pm, Sat. Eat a bit, watch a movie, go to work again.Â
I can only guess what the Sunday will look like. Hopefully I'll manage to go out and have a few drinks :) It would make up for some of the boredome at least. Oh well... life must go on. Hopefully one day I'll be done with school, and able to make a living without having to do nightshifts. They really do kill you off in the end.
Bowling for mass hysteria; a review

Yesterday, one of the more artsy tv-channels around here were so kind as to show Bowling for Columbine, the documovie about guns and high school shootings by Michael Moore. And I found it amusing, that I had recently commented on many of the things he included in his movie. These are my thoughts...
