I've recently had a chance - and by chance I do of course mean nearly forced to - eat at both Burger King and McDonalds. Now, both places are hugely popular, and, for some reason, under the false assumption, that their food is good and filling and a good buy for the cash. They are, of course, radically wrong. And here's how I know...
I've never been a huge fan of either place. I'm a Subway guy, and have been since mid nineties, when I was old enough to chose what and how to spend my own cash. But that's beside the point. I've eaten at both BK and McD within a few days of each other, and I found both places to suck fairly much.
The part the annoys me the most isn't the fact that the food is kinda crappy, fills you up for 30 minutes, then leaves you hungrier than before you ate or that you're eating your way towards a healthy heart attack at an all too premature age. The thing that really pisses me off, is the amount of hard earned cash you have to shell out for their products. It's fucking ridiculous. Especially around here. I've been to other countries where it was cheaper, sure. But still...
I had a quarter pounder menu at McD, and a Double Whopper Cheese at BK. With curly fries. Both places served me a coke. Of the two, BK is by and far the best. Their burger was inadequate at best, but still larger and better tasting, than the McD equivalent. The Quarter Pounder was just abysmally small and pathetic. And no lettuce at all. Curly fries, of course, makes a huge difference. But the fries from McD used to be top notch. This was back in the days, I guess. The taste of the McD fries I had recently instantly made me think of when I fell, and scraped my tongue on a kitchen knife somebody had left laying around. Actually, the cold steel of the knife had a pleasant aftertaste of the red fluid stuff my body keeps 5 liters of around, in case of emergencies.
So why, you might very well be asking me at this point, did I ever venture into either of these two... I believe they actually refer to themselves as 'restaurants', in the first place. Well, my not so dear reader. There's a perfectly feasible explanation for this. McD is the place my superior at work wants me to go and fetch food from, whenever I work with him, and the food at the hotel is either inedible OR simply non-existent. He's an old stick in the mud, and you can't really argue with him about it. So off I go. BK was the only place I had time to go, when I was taking a train, and my insides hurt from lack of food. I needed something, and there it was. BK. Promising a lot, keeping none of it.
McD has one redeeming factor, although it later turned against them. Their Big Tasty burger was pretty excellent. Nice dressing, lots of lettuce, a good piece of meat, and tomatoes. But of course, this was too nice for the general public. So off the menu it went. It was too healthy, I guess. Too nice. Too green!
Both BK and McD are the only open places in town to eat, and are conveniently placed right next to the strip of clubs and bars. If you chose to get drunk right smack in the middle of town of course. If you hang at the bars and cool places in the not so mainstream part of town, your possibilities for post-drinking food are endless. And that's a damned good thing. Much rather eat a small meal, for a lot less than the price of a slab of meat with two pasty buns on either side.
The cokes were both chilled and tasted reasonable! Better than the movie theater ones anyway. But that's another bedtime story for another bedtime crowd. Don't let the bedbugs rape you, kids.
