Quite an eventful day, the fact that I worked yesterday, and again tonight, taken into consideration. I was outside (yes, out in the thing called nature (seperate entry will follow)), and didn't get a whole lot of sleep. So I was grateful that I managed to bring along my laptop to work. Without it, I would've been bored to tears... and probably fallen asleep several times.
So. S9y had been lacking an upgrade for a while. Version 1.4.1 was out, and I was still on 1.3. Oh noes indeed. I'm often reluctant to do the actual upgrade because something almost ALWAYS cocks up, and I'm left without a working blog/homepage, which severely ticks me off. Not that it's a page important enough for millions of surfers to be let down, but.. you know how it is when stuff doesn't work, and you really wanted it to. But tonight, it went smoothly, and you're currently reading this entry on a freshly upgrade serendipity install.
With every upgrade, more plugins are added, and more functionality in general, and I'm enjoying the experience of browsing through loads of nifty little plug-ins that add fun/cool/practical features to my, and to a certain extent, your blogging experience. Most of the plug-ins are sort of pointless, at least for me, but somewhat fun anyway. I don't install as many as I could, because it'd slow the system down and basically, it'd mostly be for the hell of it anyway. But a few good ones are certainly interesting, to say the least.
One such plug-in is the Google analytics plug-in, I just installed. I signed up with my google account a long time ago, but just recently discovered Google analytics. I had tried manually inserting the appropriate code, but apparently I failed at that, since google kept telling me something wasn't quite right. So I just sort of left it at that. Then I discovered this new plug-in, that pretty much did it for me. I just had to enter my Google analytics account number thingy, and I was off. Went ahead with all the precautions, and lo and behold, Google says I'm a-ok for analytics. Now I just need to wait and hope it actually gathers some information. There's a green check-mark, which, as we all know, is the universal "things are peachy" sign. With a bit of luck, things are as peachy as Mr. Check-Mark claims them to be.
No... I'm not done yet. Because, another thing was fixed today, by yours truly. You'll undoubtedly remember the post, made a few days back, regarding the re-installation of operating systems on my laptop. Well, the conundrum I was in then, whether or not I should reinstall an older version of Ubuntu to get my eye candy working, thus sacrificing a few cool features I couldn't get working in the older versions, was solved today, in as much as I got my graphics card properly installed, and the eye candy makers properly configured. My windows are now wobbly again, when I drag them around, I have transparency and all kinds of other pointless, but cool, features. One thing though, I can't get my dock to work properly, for some reason. But it's a minor nuisance, since I didn't use it vehemently before. But I'll tinker some more, and perhaps it'll work in the end. Most stuff tends to after a bit. I was well happy though, seeing as a complete reinstall of the OS would really take time and effort, and not having to do it, is worth quite the smile on this little geek's face!
