It's been a dull month. Not a whole lot going on. Sure I could've made up a few things, and put it on here.. and sure enough, I have a few of them in the making. But I just haven't gotten around to finishing them yet. I dunno why, but these days it's just hard to get it going properly. Anywho, tonight is dull and boring, so I thought what the fewk...
When I came in to work today, after two days off, I was informed, that I was going to train a new guy for the position of stand by nightshifter. As in the guy I usually work with. Apparently he wanted a summer job, and since the regular two subs couldn't fill in all the vacant positions, my boss decided to hire a new guy. And I qualified as his trainer, apparently. I think it's the first time people have thought of me as ready to train anybody. Perhaps it's just chance. Or perhaps I haven't ever been in a job long enough to be able to train anyone. But now's my time to shine.
He's a nice enough dude. A friend of another girl who works in here during the days. That's how it usually goes. Somebody knows somebody. Somebody's related to somebody. Of course tonight had to be hella fucking busy. Lots of people mowing about the lobby, people in the bar, room service, phones ringing like crazy. I told him to hang around, and observe for a while, until things calmed down, and then I'd start instructing him, and give him the tour of the house. I don't want to get into long explanations and then be interrupted all the time. That's really annoying. So he hung back. And I dealt with things.
It's more calm now, and I took him around the house, showed him the view, the backrooms, the basement and such. I hadn't really thought about it, but there's tons of stuff to remember, that I just sort of take for granted. But it's best learnt on a shift to shift basis, in my opinion. He's never gonna be working without one of us full timers by his side, and we'll tell him how things are done. I've got two more shifts to give him the lowdown on this bitch, though, so I suspect he'll get around. I might even teach him to do my job, so I can slack off bigtime. Who knows.
